Who We're Looking For

Our student interns are graduate-level learners working toward a Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field within a regulated health profession.

We welcome applications from students who are passionate about clinical work and committed to growth. Preference is given to those who have completed coursework in counselling or therapy skills, human development, trauma, professional ethics, and diversity and inclusion.

A Practicum With Our Practice May Not Be The Best Fit If:

You are looking for immediate client experience.
You prefer a fully unstructured learning environment.
You are not comfortable receiving feedback and engaging in reflective learning.
Your practicum requires experience in areas outside our clinic’s focus (e.g., child therapy, play therapy, couples counseling).
You are looking for a practicum that includes group therapy experience.
You are unable to commit to the full practicum duration and required hours.
You are seeking experience in a setting other than private practice.

Are We The Best Fit For You?

At Aligned Minds, we offer graduate students a supportive, high-quality practicum experience focused on developing strong clinical skills in adult therapy.

Before beginning client work, students receive thorough training and onboarding to build confidence, competence, and ethical decision-making skills. This includes hands-on preparation in case conceptualization, documentation, and foundational therapeutic techniques.

Once ready, students work directly with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, and complex mental health concerns with close supervision and guidance.

Our practicum is rooted in strong clinical standards, professional accountability, and skill development, making it a great fit for motivated, independent learners who are ready to deepen their practice and grow as therapists.

How Do I Get Started?

To apply for a student practicum at Aligned Minds Counselling and Therapy, please submit a resume and tailored cover letter to our Executive Assistant.

Shortlisted applicants will be asked to provide references who can speak to their personal qualities and readiness for clinical work. At least one reference must be a current professor or direct supervisor. A criminal record check with a vulnerable sector check will also be required before beginning the placement.

What to Include in Your Cover Letter:

Please make sure your cover letter includes the following details:

Your university and program (e.g., Master of Social Work, Master of Counselling)
Year of study and expected graduation date
Desired practicum start and end dates
Total required practicum hours and a breakdown of hours (e.g., direct vs. indirect client hours, supervision hours)
Required supervisor qualifications (e.g., RSW, MSW, RPsych)
Practicum paperwork deadline
Any special requirements from your school (e.g., evaluation forms, report deadlines, specific client populations)
Summary of your educational background and practicum requirements
Any prior clinical experience or therapy modalities you're interested in
Learning goals and what you’re looking for in supervision
Availability and any practical considerations (e.g., schedule)
Why you believe you’d be a strong fit for our clinic
How your background, skills, and interests align with our practice
